Summary of KI Corporation.
Established in 1959, KI Corporation (“Ki”) is one of the world’s largest private companies, with diverse international interests controlled by its founder, Nathan Kirsh.
Kirsh, a South African by birth, has been widely honoured for both his business success and philanthropy around the world.
Ki’s principal interests fall into two main categories - food distribution in the USA and international property investments and development. In addition, Ki has various global private equity interests and several proprietary business operations in South Africa and Swaziland.
Ki’s American business, which trades as Jetro/Restaurant Depot, is a multi-billion dollar industry leader in the cash and carry food services sector. It has approximately 6,000 employees and trades out of +- 100 large, mainly company-owned warehouse outlets in all major cities across the United States. This rapidly expanding company has changed the nature and business model of food service distribution to independently owned restaurants in the US. Customers are largely abandoning the historical practice of buying large quantities of product on credit with a delivery service, in favour of more frequent cash and carry purchases from Jetro/Restaurant depot.
In addition, Ki has a diverse range of businesses including Magal, a Nasdaq listed security company, an Argentinean leather company, an Indian pipe manufacturer, a chain of health and fitness clubs across Europe and Israel, a UK/Swiss asset management company and Chefworks - a fast growing manufacturer of clothing for the catering industry.
Ki’s international property portfolio comprises of inter alia, significant stakes in listed property stocks Minerva in the UK and Abacus in Australia and various private properties and development projects in the USA, Israel, Australia, South Africa and Swaziland. Ki is not a passive investor and typically adds value to its property investments with its entrepreneurial, innovative thinking and financial structuring and is focused on a strategy of holding quality assets for the long term.
